What is Live Content?
Web 2.0 presentation module for DotNetNuke platform...
Live Content uses Web 2.0 approach to provide a Rich User Interface and streamlines content presentation by overlaying content on current page. Overlay images, videos, audios, text/html content, flash content, DotNetNuke modules, and external content. Driven by CSS and Layout templates; this module is limited by your imagination to create Picture/Video galleries, Product Showcase, Tooltips, Module Popper, and more...
Description doesn't justify this module, see the demo and experience it!
Module Highlights
- No plugins like Flash or Java required.
- Popup blockers are no problem. The content expands within the active browser window.
- Single click. After opening an element (image, video, audio, text/html, flash, dotnetnuke module, and/or external content), user can scroll further down on the page or leave the page without closing the overlay. User can also open mulitple elements without closing other elements; great for comparison between two images or product comparison.
Live Content is made up of "ELEMENTS"
An element could be an Image/Picture, Video, Audio, Flash, Content (Text/Html), DotNetNuke Module, and/or External Content (any web page)
Live Content supports following 7 elements:
- ePicture
- eVideo
- eContent
- eModule
- eAudio
- eFlash
- eFrame
Show multiple element types within same module to create rich ,interactive, and user friendly web 2.0 presentations
ePicture - Element
Quickly create visually stunning Image/Picture galleries:
- Supports Jpeg/Jpg, Png, and Gif file formats.
- User can add a single picture or an entire directory (zipped) of pictures to the gallery.
- Bult-in thumbnail generator which creates thumbnail on fly to your specified size. Orignal images kept intact.
- Saves disk space and provides different sizes of thumbnails from single image
- Provides quick response time and performance by caching the images
- Specify Title, Alt Title, Caption, and Thumbnail Size for each Picture
- Module can render either a image link (thumbnail) or a text link (using picture's title)
- Module can automatically resize high resolution images to fit in client's window; an icon is automatically generated for the user to expand and see the original version.
- If resize is required, admin can specify a minimum width and minimum height to keep regardless of user's client's size.
- Navigation bar provides quick access to move image, close image, or change between other images.
eVideo - Element
Create visually stunning video galleries by either uploading your videos or integrating online videos.
- Supports Online Vides: YouTube, Google Video, and MetaCafe.

- User can specify a Title and Caption for each content element.
Ideal for showing advertisements, system messages, and other important notices when combined with Auto Launch feature.
eModule - Element
This element opens endless possibilities. It allows you to show your existing DotNetNuke modules in Web 2.0 way. Use this element for quick inline login access, user registeration, to display FAQ's, Text/Html, Documents, Events, and other third party modules.

- Optionally, Element View State can be enabled to automatically launche the module when page refreshes.
- Specify a thumbnail / preview image and size file for module.

eFrame - Element
eFrame provides yet another dimension of flexibility in Live Content. Simply provide a valid URL and the content will be expanded within active browser window. Checkout our tutorials page to see how we're using this element. This is a great element to show non-DotNetNuke sites within your portal...
- Allows you to overlay any "External Content "
- Specify a thumbnail / preview image and size file for frame.
- Specify a width and height for each frame.
- User can specify a Title and Caption for each frame element.
Common Properties - All Element
- An element could be set to Auto Launch which automatically overalys the element when the page is first loaded. Auto launch can be limited to Once Per Session Only
- Element's View State can optionally be preserved throughout the session. If the element is launched and user leaves the page to later return to it, the element will be auto launched to preserve the view. This is an ideal option for eModule elements but can be used with all element types.
- Each element can have its own Call Tag which can be used to create unique URL for the element that will directly launch the element.
- Each element can have Tags to identify the content; much like online sites such as YouTube.com and Digg.com. Clicking on a tag will link the user to other related elements.
- Group Name can be specified on each element which "Groups or Combines" the elements with same name. Keyboard navigation as well as navigation bar provides access to grouped elements. By default, all elements are grouped under a same name. User can specify a different group name for related elements to create sub gallery's within a module.
- Includes 3 Custom Data fields for greater flexibility and control.
- Outline Style and CSS Wrapper Class can be specified on any element for customzied styling.
View Options - Other Features
- Specify # of columns, Layout Type ( Table or Flow), and Repeat Type (Horizontal or Vertical)
- Live Content automatically generates paging for the content based on Elements Per Page value
- Live Content uses an open architecture for customizing and theming. Users can change the look and feel to match their site. Future version will include ability to create your own themes
- Live Content provides ability to add "Overlays" on already overlayed elements. Overlays can be anything from advertisements to control panels for element navigation. Currently, only one overlay (ControlBar) is provided for ePicture element. Future version will include ability to create your own overlays.
- Most importantly, Live Content allows the use of Templates which provides infinite flexiblity in presenting your content. Use the built - in tags to present your content in any format you desire. Some basic knowledge of HTML allows the user to create amazing applications with this module...
DotNetNuke Integration
- We're really excited about our DNN Search Integration. Not only all of your Live Content elements will be indexed by DNN Search, the search link will show the user precisely what he/she might be searching for. DNN Search Links will automatically launch the element; so if your user searches for a Video or Image and clicks on any of the search result, he/she will automatically be linked to "Live Content" page and the element searched for will auto launch.
- Export feature is implemented. It allows you to export the entire module configuration to an XML file. This is a great feature for backup or to move configuration from one module to another. Simply backup the folder (which hosts images, videos) along with the XMl file and you have a complete backup of the module. Easy to move between sites or different hosts.
- Import feature allows you to import the XML file generated in Export feature.
Compatibility
Dotnetnuke Versions
This module supports and has been tested to work with any version above and including DNN 3.3.0
At time of authoring this page, the latest DNN version is 4.9.0 and Live Content has been successfully tested with it.
Dotnetnuke Core
This module does not modify the dotnetnuke core in any manner. It can be installed/uninstalled without effecting other modules/content

“Unbelievable! Mandeeps is incredible! Get this...not only did they immediatly respond to a question I had before I bought this, but the zip file I got when I bought Live Content is loaded with easy to read (got through it in about 10 min), easy to understand documentation in a couple different formats...AND!!! they included a little video converter you can use to "prep" your video files before you upload them. The future plans they talk about in the documentation for this module make me want...nay...yearn for the next release. Not a good module...the BEST module by some developers that know what great software is all about! Are you guys hiring? I would love to work with you!”
- Robert A

“I have purchased quite a few modules for various sites and I have to admit this is one of the best. Within five minutes of watching the online demos/instructions I was able to add e-videos to my site. If anything I am going to have to make sure not to over use this module (you know how it is when somebody discovers they can have 20+ fonts on a page) Two thumbs up! This module will improve any site.”

did your modul Live Content :: Web 2.0 works with DotNetNuke 3.2.2?
Thanks
Daniel
A:

|
|
Q:
Does your product utilize Ajax?
A:
Yes, it does...
|
|
Q:
1.) Is there ability to change the white framework or white background of component with the Standard or Enterprise version, or is that only editable with source?
Is that editable with source?
2.) If I were to purchase an Enterprise version, would there be a discount on Source later?
Thanks
A:
You don't need source to edit that; that can be changed by editing the css file. There are several outline types provided which are easily changed from the admin interface; you can further customize the background color by editing the css files.

Q:
Hi, I wonder if it is possible to point live content to a folder rather then uploading zip file. I already have images uploaded using fatgeorge and would like to randomly display them from that folder.
A:
No, since each element (image) has several properties that are tied with it such as caption, title, tags, userid, etc...
|
|
Q:
Does your video module have a really good "menu" system to display videos. I will have nearly 200 videos to show users and looking for a menu system which displays in categories, then video listings - in a clean clear presentation.
A:
Module comes with a Tags Cloud module which can be used to select categories, then view the listings...Also, it's really easy to create your own custom menu since the module supports query parameters to filter video listings. Example: www.yourserver.com?LCTag=Cars will only show videos that have 'Car' tag associated with it... Checkout example of Tags Cloud at http://dnn.mandeeps.com/tutorials.aspx Clicking on a tag on the right will filter video listing on left...

Q:
I was trying to place an order and wanted to take advantage of the offer to upgrade to Enterprise for a 40% discount. Do I need to have both the standard and enterprise added to my cart? I seem to keep getting a $149.95 cost which doesn't seem to reflect a 40% discount...
A:
Discount is only for those who have already purchased Standard Edition and want to upgrade to Enterprise Edition (for price difference). If you don't own any licenses, simply purchase Enterprise Edition directly...
|
|
Q:
Is the content within each element seen by search egnines?
A:
Yes, Live Content is designed to be search engine friendly...next minor version will be enhanced for better SEO (search engine optimization)
|
|
Q:
Does the standard edition allow for use in different portals, or is the Enterprise edition required for use within multiple portals?
A:
Standard Edition allows for use in multiple portals as long as they are on the same DNN installation...
|
|
Q:
How does the 40% off upgrade discount apply to my purchase? It looks like if I buy the Enterprise Edition at 149.95 I would get billed for 89.95. Is this true? I didn't see a promo code or anything on the coupon.
thanks.
A:
Correct, if you already have a license for Live Content :: Web 2.0 and would like to upgrade to Enterprise Edition then a 40% discount applies. Basically, we're offering the upgrade for price difference... Your discount will auto apply as long as you use the same snowcovered.com account from which you originally purchased the license. Thanks
|
|
Q:
Why doesnt Live Content Web 2.0 support IE 7.0. I've tested it out and it just work.

Live Content does support IE 7.0; what implied that we don't support it...? Thanks

Q:
Is it possible to combine your Live Content module with the Xmod module? That would be really nice! At this moment i display an image like this: <img src="http://localhost/site/Portals/0/uitvindingenImg/<xmod:field name="FileUpload1"/>">
<img src="http://localhost/site/Portals/0/uitvindingenImg/<xmod:field name="FileUpload2"/>">
Is there a way to display your module there?
A:
Yes, Live Content can be used in conjunction with XMod, LixtX and other data driven applications. All you would need to do is append #LiveContent[CallTag] at end of your image src (Calltag is associated with Live Content's element) Read on Developer Mode in our documenation to get you started. http://dnn.mandeeps.com/online+docs.aspx

Q:
Looks awesome! One question: is it possible to rotate eContent, showing a random item each time the page loads?
A:
Starting wtih v1.2.1, you can launch random elements at page load...

Q:
I am interested in purchasing Web 2.0. I would like to use this module to display 360 architectural renderings of houses. I would like to create a gallery of house renderings (picture of the front of the house), but when you click on it, it would open up a Flash file that would be a 360 degree rendering of the house (spinning). Would the eVideo module accomodate that in your oppinion? The files would be loaded on the server (through the file manager). My second question is, when the video opens up, is there the ability to auto play the movie, rather than clicking play? I was uncertain if that was a function of YouTube or the module. Thanks for your time.
A:
Hi, yes that can be accomplished through eVideo element; you can either upload the SWF directly through Live Content or through File Manager (and specify the URL in Live Content) SWF files will not have any controls (play/pause etc...) so your SWF file will auto play... If you need controls, you should convert it to FLV file... Let us know if you have any other questions
|
|
Q:
Does this mod come with all the elements mentioned as standard or are they purchases separately? I a referring to ePicture/eVideo and so on. I ask this because at one point the description says that it is made up of elements, but then in the next paragraph says that Live content supports the following modules. SO I just want to clarify that.
Thanx
A:
Yes, this module comes with all the elements mentioned: ePicture, eVideo, eContent, eModule, and eFrame. It also comes with a sub module "Tags Cloud" and an windows application "Video Converter"
|
|
Q:
I intend to use your module in a Japanese site. Is it easy to localize it?
A:
Yes, module supports localization! Move and Close links on top right of elements are not yet localizable; they will be in our next minor update scheduled for release within next week.

Q:
I would like to buy a single copy and then possibly upgrade to enterprise edition. Can I upgrade to enterprise at a later date for $90 or do I need to do that at the same time I purchase the single copy?
thanks,
Ed
A:
Sure, you'll be able to upgrade to Enterprise Edition later...we'll setup the discounts soon.

Q:
Very nice and impressive module.
One question. Is there a way to print a module that is rendered through Live Content? For example, if I display a Text / HTML module through Live Content is there a way to expose the print function, comparably to how the user could print the module through the default DNN presentation?
Thank you.
A:
Absolutely! eModule element allows you to show the container of the module which has the default DNN Print icon for printing... Let us know if you have any other questions
|
|
Q:
I gotta say, nice work. I'm a web developer too and this module looks pretty polished. I think this is what a DNN module should be in 2007. This is one of the most impressive modules in Snowcovered right now!
Now for the questions...
The live demo for the eVideo requiremed me to install a DivX IE add-on to view the videos. Is this requirement embedded in your module? Will my users be prompted to install this 6MB add-on to get the eVideos to play? ...or can I decide what player and video types are required?
I noticed the downward drag on an element with a website loaded in it was slow It was easy to loose the "grip" on the MOVE link at the top of the element. I suspect this has to do with the browser repainting/repositioning the element as it's being dragged. I'm not sure how I would go about "fixing" this, do you think you'll be able to fix it in a later release? In all honesty, this isn't a show stopper by any means.
I'll buy this module anyway. :)
A:
Thanks for the kudos! We spent 4 months developing this one...
Demo required DivX IE Add-On because we're demonstrating Stage6 Divx Videos integration. If you don't show online videos from Stage6 (stage6.divx.com) then your users wouldn't need this add-in. All other videos are shown as FLASH which 99.9% users already have. In case they don't have flash install, the module will prompt them to install it.
If the overlay is quite big (in both physical size and content wise) then dragging might not be very smooth. In upcoming version, we plan to make the elements overlays templatable as well so user can designate a region (div) as movable instead of a link (MOVE) This will provide more control...
Please let us know if you have any further questions. Thanks
