Description

DNN - Bulk Emailer is an advanced reliable module replacement for the DotNetNuke Newsletters bulk email module. “Reliability” is the key to this module. The .net services used by other modules to send email is not reliable. No other module we have found uses anything close to the advanced programming and methods of queuing we have developed over the past 16 months to make this module what it is today.

WHY THIS MODLE?
Frustrated with DNN (DotNetNuke) NewsLetter Email feature?.... We sure were!

And for good reason... unfortunately the inherent .net services that DNN rely on for sending multiple / bulk email is flaky at best.
Anyone who has sent email to more than around 800 recipients at a time, and bothers to check that everyone is receiving the email will get a rude shock when they discover that the service is far from reliable.

Embarrassing if you have a client that is using your DNN services and expecting to get email messages from the website.
It turns out there are a lot of very good reason for DNN newsletter to stop sending part way through a bulk email send, and in fairness to the wonderful boys at the DNN core development team... most of the problems are nothing to do with DNN itself.

The problem we discovered was that sometimes it work and sometimes it does not. Either way, you never really know unless you are monitoring externally, and even then, you don’t know why.

We tried all sorts of tricks in creating a module that would send large numbers of email messages reliably. With much toil, trial and error, we are now sure that we have just the module to send multiple email messages from a DNN site to recipients.

In this module we have literally tried to anticipate all the potential problems that stop other email modules. These include but are not limited to:

  • Worker Process crash
  • Worker Process recycle
  • Worke Process stop
  • IIS restat
  • Low bandwith SMTP Server
  • SMTP server interruption
  • Server Crash
  • SQL Server connection error.
  • Invalid email address
  • Server Memory errors
  • Time out porblems
  • Server Bog Down
  • Server Restart
  • Power Interruption

Word to MHTML

This is the most exciting feature we have added. We found that most of the end users of email modules really struggle with correctly formatting HTML messages. The end result was an email that looked very unprofessional and often would not format correctly in emial clients like hotmail.

To overcome this problem we created a feature that allows the end user to create their message in MS word (2000, 2002, 2003, 2007 .doc, .docx) and have the document turned into a correctly formatted mhtml message. The end result is a professional email message that will render like the word document at the client end.

HTML to MHTML
Using your preferred HTML editor and CSS locally to create an email message. You can then use IE7 to save the message as a .mht file. This can then be sent to users to deliver a complete viewable email messages that takes advantage of the features that mhtml offer.

Import Custom Lists
You can send email to DNN site users, or import from a .csv or .xls file to custom created and managed email lists. This import will robustly work with 100's of 1000's of email addresses.

The importing of custom lists include additional fields for use with the Token System. First Name, Last Name, Display Name, Email Address.

Contact Importing form your email clients
We have added the ability to see your contacts in the module and easily import 1 or all of them into the campeign.

Campaign Management
Each email out is tracked as a campaign for management. You can view the progress of the campaign and access a past campaign for reference or resend.

Read Tracking
We have included the tracking of email messages, allowing you to see how effective your email campaigns are by way of read receipts.

Token Profile Data
We have included the ability to put tokens into your email messages (including the word documents) that allow you to pull custom DNN profile data and include it in your email message. This feature will allow you to personalise messages.

For example. If you create a profile item called "Hair Colour" in the DNN profile data, you could then include a token [Hair Colour: the colour of your hair]. Any user on the campaign that has a value for "Hair Colour" will have the data put in place of the token. Anyone who has a blank value will have "the colour of your hair" put in it's place.

Simple Unsubscribe
By using a token, you can have an unsubscribe system that is a single click for users. They will be identified by the email address that the email was sent to, and that address will be added to a block list. No future email messages will be sent to that blocked email address.

There is an option to override blocked email addresses for emergency communications.

There is an unsubscribe setting that allows you to define a URL for users to contact you and or report abuse. This can be configured by you to any URL.

Blocked Email List Management
You can view, manually add or remove email addresses from the blocked email address list.

Duplication Removal
Because you may be sending to a combination of many email lists, the Bulk Emailer will build a send list and remove any email duplications. This ensures that recipients only receive 1 email from you. It gives you the confidence to draw in custom lists from many locations.

Email Attachments
You can add an uploaded file to send out as an email attachment.

Control Scheduler
There is a scheduler that runs the submitted jobs from your DNN websites. This can be controlled to meter the flow of outbound email messages to your SMTP server.

Monitor the Send Progress
Campaigns can be monitored in real time to see their progress. This is achieved with a java progress bar that accurately follows the scheduler and send progress.

Uses default SMTP setting in DNN
The module is designed to work with the SMTP settings in your DNN website. This means there is 0 configuration required in the setup of the module.

Simple to Install  As with all the modules we produce, this module will in install in all the listed versions (see below) of DNN with ease. A single PA install file makes the install and deletion process a breeze.

Small and Fast  Even though the module is feature rich in the back end with how it sorts data and queues email messages for sending, we have worked hard to keep the performance of your server in mind at all times. The behind seen operation of this module will not have significant impact on your servers.

New Menu System We have created a simple to use menu system for configuring the module. The current release does not require this, however future versions updates will call on our standard simple menu.

It Works
Many of us have experienced frustrations with expensive modules that don't work. The either break or don't work as advertised. Our dedication to this working module is evident in the fact that we have sold hundreds of working modules and continue to develop all of our modules as a full time effort. This is what we do!

Built In Help
The module contains help icons that actually contain helpful information. Imagine that! This assists users who are not programmers and don’t want to be.

Upgrade Path
As we continue development of this module, we will continue to release enhancements to users who have purchased this module. With each purchase you will receive 6 months of free upgrades.

Special Note
We are particularly proud of this module. It solves a serious problem for us with our clients needing to send email to multiple thousands of users. We tiptoed through a minefield of problems along the way and are proud to say that the resulting module will solve the 1000 and above email issues with DNN .

Ask a Question
Q:  Can we email balst an html email with embeded images with this module?
A:  Yes, you can send html with images. Easy way is to use the free tial period to test. Grab the module at our site.

Q:  I want a set of simple subscribe/registration fields in a container on the home page (i.e. Name, Email) and then use the DNN role to control the subscriber list. Am I correct in assuming I will need to buy a separate module to handle the simple registration?
A:  We currently achive this by getting people to register on the website, and using a role like Registered users or another auto assign role. Then when signed up, we can send to users who are part of that role. Alternatively using our Feedback Designer module to capture data to database, then exporting and importing as a custom list. In the very near furute we will be releasing an advanced signup module as part of the bulk emailer.

Q:  Hello. Let's say we have a group of users we want to send emails to. Some of these users are in one DNN role, others are in another role, and some are in both roles. For example: * We have 200 users in a "Customer Role" * We have 100 users in a "Mailing List" role * There are some users, but not all, who are in both roles. Can we send an email to all users in a given role or a set of roles? Furthermore, if we want to send an email to users in both roles, will it duplicate the message to users who are in both, or can it send only one unique message to each user, regardless of how many of the sending roles they are in? For example, can we select to send the email to both the Customers and Mailing List roles, and if so, will it send two emails to users who are in both roles, or will it keep them unique? Thanks!
A:  Hi.. it sounds like it will do what you want. You can select 1 or several roles in the dnn site. Then you can combine this with custom lists and then combine this with user imports from Outlook etc. Any message that is sent will treat each email address as seperate. So no matter how many lists or roles an email address appears on, the address will only receive one email message.

Q:  Do you have the following funtions in this module? Categories (multiple lists) Secondary SMTP (use a different mail server than the website uses). And the possibility of paid custom module development to make those happen.
A:  I am not sure about categories.. but we to have multiple lists available. The only SMTP feature currently is the DNN website settings. We would be interested in working with you on these features. Please use the contact us form on our website to request this. www.interactivewebs.com

Q:  Is there an API available so I can integrate some of this functionality into my modules? I manage a baseball league and have modules that send out game reminders automatically. As you've pointed out the out of the box smtp code does not work as well as I would like so am looking for something that I can integrate with that just works.
A:  There is no API available now. However we would like to work with you to include this. Please contact us via our form on http://www.interactivewebs.com

Q:  Hi, Do you have an enterprise license version as I am currently comparing your product to before I decide which one to purchase. http://www.snowcovered.com/Snowcovered2/DotNetNuke/Modules/Advanced-Email-and-News-Manager-270-Enterprise-Edition/id/6481 Many Thanks Lee
A:  Lee, Thanks for the enquiry. Yes we do have a licensing model for multiple licenses. http://www.interactivewebs.com.au/Store/tabid/161/List/0/ProductID/31/Language/en-AU/Default.aspx?SortField=ProductName%2cProductName You can purchase our product for as little as $8.50 per license. These can be resold at any price you wish to anyone.

Q:  I want to send a series of seminars that goes out once every week starting when they sign up for my web site. Is this possible with your module.
A:  The module cannot automatically send content. Each week you will have to create and send the email message. But assuming this is what you are talking about. Then yes. As a user signs up to your site they become a registered user. Sending an email each week to registered users will include new additions to the site.

Q:  I purchased and am using version 40.01.07 of the Bulk Emailer. It is great! Do you offer an upgrade price to existing users?
A:  The new version can be used, and we will give you 1 license. The new version is a 1 domain 1 license setup. So please do not upgrade if you do not want to operate under this arrangement.

Q:  i like this very much. 2 questions: #1 - can i set it to use a custom smtp server/login? i don't want it to use the default host one. #2 - how does the throttling works? i use google app's gmail for our mail service, and they have a max of 500 send each day, can i set the mailer to send like 400 each day? thanks.
A:  Unfortunatley we have not yet built this level of control into the module. Our intention was that this would work with man thousands of users, and not really intended for the 400 a day type of bulk email. You are the second person to ask, so now we are thinking about other features and this may be one we include... but at this time we are integrating the module into MS Dynamics CRM to give that application a bulk email ability. So we are several months off looking at your feature request.

Q:  Do I understand your product? Let me know if the statements below are correct. People receiving the email do not have to be members of my dnn portal. I can use xls files to load multiple lists People can opt-out Thanks
A:  This is correct. Easy way to evaluate, is to use the Free Trial version of our software available at: http://www.interactivewebs.com.au/Downloads/tabid/163/language/en-AU/Default.aspx

Q:  Question, the unsubscribe feature with a single click, does this actually remove the user from the newsletters role, or just take them off of a list? Also, Onyakteck has token based templates which allow you to generate tokens based on SQL statements, which I find necessary as I can recreate url's for last forum post for a certain forum, etc. really whatever I want this is very powerful feature. Is this something you plan to implement or currently support?
A:  The unsubscribe feature actually adds the email address to a list. When a new email message is sent from any reference, be it lists, user roles, or imported contacts... the module compiles a list of people to send to, removed duplications, then removed email addresses on the unsubscribe list. This way.. is someone says "hay... don't email me" they will not get emailed unless you tick the override option. We have tokens that reference Profile data on the DNN site. SQL tokesn is something we have listed to include in the future. No specific date yet.
