Opt In Email Documentation
The Opt In Email module allows administrators to create 'Opt In' categories and distribution lists. Users of the system can easily select which distribution list(s) they would like to Opt In/Out of. Maintenance and reports are available for administrators, and an enhanced version of 'Newsletters' is included so you can easily distribute to your Opt In lists.
- Setup as many Opt In categories as you would like
- Settings for each Opt In module can select display all of the Opt In Categories, or a selected few (Nice if you like to have different areas of your site(s) have different opt in categories)
- Settings to also optionally collect the users First/Last name besides their email address
- Settings to optionally verify the users email address after Opting In.
- Allow existing users to manage their Opt In settings. After they enter their email address, it will send them a link to the system
- Manage Users/Lists module to add, maintain users/categories
- Each area of the site and each email distributed through the system is customizable within the system. Additionally you can include parameters within the emails send to users -i.e. Dear $(FirstName), ...
- Reports for Opt In List(s) including ability to export Opt In Lists/Users to Excel
- Settings for email subject lines, email messages, and mail SMTP settings

Opt In Email Enhancements
- Control panel / dashboard w/ AJAX for easy administration of opt in
lists, subscribers, configuration and options

My Newsletters / Advanced Newsletter Enhancements
- Now directly search, view statistics, clone, and save/delete draft newsletters
- Email Campaigns - Now setup a series of emails allowing you setup campaigns, so that when
a user subscribes will automatically receive an email every ‘x’ days from each other, so they
will not receive Email #2 until they have received #1, etc… Email Campaigns run on their own
schedule and allow you to easily create dynamic content that all subscribers can receive based
on specific rules that you define.
- Bounceback Protection / Reports – You can now setup bounceback protection for newsletters
and email campaigns. The application will check your system for emails that have bounced
back (and sort through out of office replies etc…) and log these for List Cleanup reports and
actions.
- List Cleanup – View reports based on failed emails and bounceback protection along with
actions to optionally remove subscribers from the system .
- Extended Newsletter Tracking – You can now control newsletter tracking including the ability to
track newsletters based on a pre-defined image of your choice or by including a style sheet
linked within your newsletter. Tested and proven success with applications such as Microsoft
Outlook® to prevent spam and invalid reading results.
- Link Tracking – Now include link tracking with your newsletters and email campaigns. Link
tracking has extended features besides just reports… You can even define an email to go out if
a subscriber clicks on the link!
- Enhanced newsletter and email campaign statistics including counts of subscribers/distinct
who have read newsletters, link tracking reports, subscribers who have opted out, failed emails
and bouncebacks, and much more. Reports and statistics also include details such as the last
read date/time of the subscriber and their browser etc…
- Enhanced interface throughout the module including Distribution Dashboard of recent activity,
and newsletter creation improvements for testing, saving draft newsletters, copying newsletters, and viewing quick statistics.

Email Tracking – Now track the success of your newsletter.
- Distribution reports show the number emails that go out to users and which of those users have actually read the newsletter!
- Email tracking includes tracking how many times they have read the newsletter, their IP Address, and their browser type.
Layout / other enhancements
- Optinally hide help icons within main Opt In Email module
- Optionally ‘auto’ load authenticated users Opt In Email subscription
- Specify category defaults (if opt in email list is auto selected/checked upon load)
- Now maintain module stylesheet directly within module settings
- Now optinally specify a base header tag to use when distributing emails
Whats New? Enhancements In V2.6
Now schedule newsletters to be distributed on a particular date / time -many options for scheduling newsletters including the ability to specify an amount of emails to be distributed per scheduled distribution. For example, send only 100 emails per hour until the distribution finishes. Specify the scheduler to run every based on any time frame (By minute, my hour, by day, etc...)
Additional logging features for scheduling, distributions can be sent in test module where the emails will go to a specified test email.
New opt in email category options for sort order and distribution security role.
Whats New? Enhancements In V2.5
Previous Module - Previous Newsletters. Utilize the Previous Newsletter module to display previous newsletters distributed through the advanced newsletter module automatically. When creating a newsletter to go out just select if you would like for it to appear in the user-facing previous newsletter module.
Import List feature. Import lists directly from excel/csv file directly into the categories specified. Additional importing features allow you to import all users within a DotNetNuke Role. Concerned about importing duplicates? Don't worry, the Opt In Email List Import will only import new email address's.
Many other new and extended features including additional administration settings, more opt out email options, and a new quicker data layer.
Enhancements In V2.0...
Opt In Email
- ‘Simple Opt In’ extra module that only includes the very limited basics (no managing opt in info or other items that fill up the page). This new module is useful for a right or left column on a home page or to just keep it simple on any page.
- Ability to include Extended Fields for the Opt In Email module. Extended fields can be in the form of a textbox (long, short, multiline), dropdownlist, checkbox, or radio buttons. Full reporting and maintenance can be done on these extended field items.
- Portal specific maintenance - maintain lists, categories, and extended questions tied specifically to the portal. Only Super User Accounts can change or maintain other lists/categories and what portal they are tied to.
- Several enhancements to layout and design. You maintain the text for ‘Subscribe Me’ link and ‘Go’ link. Additional settings allow you to have the labels and fields displayed on same line or separate line.
Advanced Newsletter
- Maintain and view previous newsletters sent out through the system along with who they were distributed to.
- Easily select from a previous newsletter to start a new newsletter from a template
- Enhanced newsletter parameters. Include variables with each newsletter for the user (i.e., Dear $(FirstName)…)
- Additional Opt Out features included so that users can opt out of a particular category, or opt out of all categories

If you want to add a newsletter subscription to your site then this is the package. We were able to have everything setup and running in just a few minutes. The only downside is that we wish it had more features ( the same features lacking in ALL OTHER email opt in mods).

If you are looking for a simple straight forward module to handle newsletter sign-up's etc. the look no further. Main module worked "straight out of the box" and an issue with the simple Opt-In mod was dealt with quickly and efficiently by Data Springs support staff.
Modifying the CSS files to change the look and feel of the modules proved a little tricky but this could easily be sorted with better documentation. Otherwise very pleased with the module.

I give the highest marks to the tool and support staff out of all the modules that I've ever used. The tool itself is invaluable and the staff went out of their way to help with installation, answering questions, and soliciting feedback for enhancements. This is a good model for all other vendors to follow. The tool has essential functionality and flexibility for customization.

I purchased another developers $200 email marketing tool - it was so complicated my clients were unable to use it and it had a restrictive licensing scheme.
This tool was easy enough for clients to actually use and does the job well at a good price.

This is a clean installing module. There were no conflicts with 30+ premium modules I have installed on one of my sites. The documentation is excellent. The graphic layout of the checkboxs for the opt in's is very limited. This is the reason i did not give it 5 stars.

As a 'dotnetnuke newbie,' I needed a module that would work 'right out of the box.' Within an hour of installing this module, I had a fully functioning opt-in/opt-out newsletter subscription center integrated into my site; and the hour includes time just playing with a myriad of bells and whistles that allow for total customization. More so, customer support is second to none. In fact, I bought more Data Springs modules as a result of the experience I had with Opt In Email 3.0.

Works as stated. It has a seperate small module that allows you to just put email address or name and email address for subscription like on a home page. Different departments only have access to their newsletter under a single newsletter manager.

Hi. Well the major features include the ability to opt in and out of lists, distribute an opt out link if users don't want to at the bottom of a newsletter, work either with registered users or independently (users don't have to register to use the module or be part of an opt in list) as well as other features such as email tracking and more email personalization.

I would like for people in a non portal admin role to send out newsetters. Is it possible to create a "Newsletter Admin" Role and then people in that role are able to send emails? Right now I would have to give portal admin priveledges to users sending the newsletter.

Yes, you can specify a seperate role per opt in category that can send out newsletters.

A:
Correct. The module can either be directly integrated with their userID/registration, not integrated at all with the portals registration at all, or also integrated with our Dynamic Registration product if you want them to opt in /out during registration. To answer your question though, yes the user can opt in /out and add themselves to the email list without registering for the portal itself.

Hello, yes there is a previous newsletters module within Opt In Email that you can use to display previous newsletters (and you can filter that by lists).

Hello, yes the module can work with and without integration with the DNN users/registered users. It has several integration options to import from users roles or default fields if the user is signed in etc... It does not require integration with the core users though, all optional features.

A:
Yes. There is an option within the module to 'Auto Verify' or send them a message which you can customize and forces them to click a link to verify their subscription.

Does the administration support sending emails to roles as well?
Is there a way to sync a Role to Subscription list? We basically are just needing the delivery info that is not present in the Core Newsletters, like boounces, non-delivery, etc.. so we might migrate to this.
All of our current email marketing is done to roles so if there was some integration that would be great...

There is import option to import specific roles to specific opt in email lists. If you were just wanting this feature to take advantage of the scheduling and tracking features this might be your best solution. There is no 'Sync' but you could just run the import before sending a newsletter out to make sure everyone from that role was in the list. Thanks!
